How do I know if my patient needs an alternating pressure mattress pad?

An alternating pressure mattress pad should be used for patients who are likely to spend more than 15 hours per day in bed or who are classified as medium to high risk of developing pressure ulcers, or bedsores. People at higher risk are typically: seriously ill; not mobile; have spinal cord injury; do not eat a proper diet; wear prosthesis; smoke; are incontinent of stool or urine; have diabetes; have COPD or heart failure; have Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, or heart failure; or have a broken hip or have had a recent hip surgery.

What happens if all air lost due to no electricity, does the mattress deflate?

This is a low air loss mattress and will stay inflated up to 24 hours in the instance of a power outage.

How do I adjust the firmness or softness of my alternating pressure mattress?

The air pressure can be adjusted using the dial on the air pump to the desired firmness level.

Do the air cells cycle?

Yes they do cycle. The air-filled channels alternate from inflating to deflating to help vary the pressure and reduce the risk of pressure sores and ulcers.

The mattress will relieve pressure from vulnerable areas so that sores do not develop. It is recommended that high risk areas be checked regularly for the formation of pressure spots and bedsores.

Yes, the alternating air pressure mattress topper is a low air loss mattress system that is used in conjunction with a standard twin size mattress.

Is the pump compatible with 220 volts?

No, the pump is not compatible with 220 volts. It used standard 110V only.

How do I clean my alternating pressure mattress?

To clean your mattress, first disconnect the compression pump from the electrical outlet. Use a lint-free cloth with mild detergent or disinfectant solution to wipe down the cover and air bladders as needed.Carefully dry the mattress with a soft towel and allow the mattress to air dry completely before replacing the cover. The mattress can also be wiped down with alcohol wipes or light rubbing alcohol.

Operating Instructions:

  • Position the mattress topper on the bed and snap the water resistant cover in place.

  • Secure the mattress to the bed by tucking the ends of the mattress cover under the existing mattress or boxspring.

  • Secure the compressor on a flat surface or use the included nonmarking hooks to hang the compression on the headboard or footboard, then plug into a grounded outlet.
